Thursday night will feature a first ever designer challenge presented by The Fabric Company! Five area designers will be selected and given an equal amount of beautiful fabric exclusively selected by The Fabric Company. Contestants will have a set amount of time to create an item of their choice.
The Grand Prize winner will receive the coveted 6 page fashion spread in Streetscape Magazine’s Spring 2012 issue.(A $12,000.00 value) and a feature article. And of course bragging rights!!

Basket of Hope
Basket of Hope in St. Louis delivers thousands of baskets to several hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House each year. The baskets are given to children with cancer and contain toys, games, crafts, movies, pre-loaded MP3 players, gift certificates and much more. At Christmas and Easter, the St. Louis Rams deliver baskets to children at Cardinal Glennon and Shriner's Hospital.
Connections to Success
Connections to success empowers determined individuals with a plan and resources to achieve economic self-reliance. Its programs include Professional Development, Pathways to Success, Wheels to Success and Dress for Success. Dress for Success Midwest provides women transitioning to the workforce with business appropriate apparel as they prepare to enter the professional workforce.
The Karen Weidinger Foundation
The Karen Weidinger Foundation (KWF), founded in 2004, is a St. Charles-based charity made-up entirely of volunteers. The KWF has raised and donated nearly $200,000 to assist breast cancer patients in the community. Each and every dollar has stayed in the community offering items and services that are not typically covered by insurance, such as wigs, post-mastectomy camisoles and dietary consultation, as well as support and wellness programs designed to improve the healing process for patients.
YMCA
The Y offers programs, services and initiatives focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Its programs enable kids to realize their potential and provide ways for families to have fun together. Th Y works to empower people to be healthier in spirit, mind and body, prepares people for college and employment, welcomes and embraces newcomers and helps foster a nationwide service ethic.

The CFDA has just announced those 10 promising young designers who will be moving into the CFDA’s garment district Fashion Incubator studios next May, WWD is reporting.
The program launched in 2010 with a $200,000 grant from the city and is now underwritten by Target. Chosen designers are provided with several hundred square foot studios priced well below market value ($1,500-$2,000). It’s a major help for a designer just starting out, allowing them to take the exorbitant amount of money they may have been spending on rent and put it into their business. It’s also just a great way for a young designer to get on the CFDA’s radar. This year, however, the program will do more than just give designers a place to work, starting with the program’s first members, which include Prabal Gurung, Sophie Theallet, Waris Ahluwalia and others.
They are the first beneficiaries of a new partnership with NYU’s Stern Consulting Corps., a selected group of NYU Stern M.B.A. students who will provide full business mentoring to the incubatees. They’ll help the designers develop “full financial statements, cash flow projections and investor-ready business plans.” This added business incubation component may prove even more beneficial to the designers in the long term–especially in a time when even the most talented designers can fail as the result of poor business practices.
